15 Times Harry Potter Got Mental Health Just Right

After experiencing witnessing death, losing loved ones, abuse and torture, Harry and some other characters are likely to experience symptoms of trauma-related disorders, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Harry spends months having nightmares and flashbacks about the traumatic experience of watching Cedric die. In addition, he is extremely vigilant, angry, and avoids talking about what he is going through with his friends when he finally sees them. His symptoms are consistent to what some people might go through after experiencing a traumatic event. Most people recover naturally over time, especially if they have a good support system in place, as Harry does. However, some people may continue to develop symptoms of PTSD and may benefit from compassionate therapy, from someone like Albus Dumbledore who has a caring and compassionate nature.
